This website is run on behalf of Berkshire Public Health. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Graphs aren’t readable when navigating with keyboard only – This affects graph-viewing tools that appear as a hover, such as the zoom and image download buttons
- Google Translate plug-in cannot be modified – This issue fails WCAG 2.1 criterion. We are aware of this, however this cannot be rectified due to the plug-in utilising third party software
- Some of the files on this website might not be in an accessible format such as our monthly reports. We are working on a more accessible format for these
- Some of the images on this website might not be in an accessible format such as infographics (where possible we will supply a text only version to compensate for this)
- Reading order is incorrect with some repetition when using a screen reader – Some elements might be repetitive and require further explanation.
Accessibility information for the Berkshire East JSNA
The Berkshire East JSNA website design has followed the same principles as the main Berkshire Public Health website to support accessibility. The JSNA aims to provide clear, accessible information wherever possible.
Some areas of the JSNA are outside of the accessibility regulations scope, however we are still working to improve these.
- Topic Packs – These are created using Microsoft Power BI and provide a more detailed analysis of different topic and subject areas from a local perspective. Interactive dashboards are difficult to navigate using a keyboard and are unable to provide a text alternative when viewing charts and maps of the data. These are exempt from meeting regulations under the online maps and mapping services exception, as long as essential information is provided in an accessible digital manner where maps are required for navigational use.
The Topic Packs are designed to be easy-to-read and use accessible fonts and font sizes. Guidance has also been created to inform users how to make these packs larger to read and easier to navigate.
- Maps –The accessibility regulations do not require us to make maps accessible. However, we have taken steps to make the information as accessible as possible through the choice of colours and font sizes used. The format of historic maps included on the website will also be improved as they are updated with new information.
- Useful resources – some of the historic resources that have been uploaded to the JSNA website are in PDF or CSV formats that are not accessible. These include documents created by the Berkshire East local authorities, as well as other organisations. The Berkshire East local authorities will not produce resources in a PDF or CSV format in the future to improve accessibility. Local resources created in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint will be individually assessed for accessibility before being added to the website.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We have monitoring in place to review the accessibility of the site on an ongoing basis. We use this monitoring to identify and fix any new issues that occur. We also respond to any issues identified quickly and effectively.
We have noted proposed resolution dates next to any issues that we are aware of, and we will update this statement once these are complete.
