Lifestages:

Older People (Falls and Mobility)

People worldwide are living longer. However, many people currently spend a significant proportion of their later life in poor health or managing a disability, which could have been prevented. These years spent in ill health are not inevitable and many of the factors that cause people to age differently can be prevented or the impact mitigated through public health interventions. This section includes information about older people and healthy ageing, including falls, mobility and access to care and services.

Professor Chris Whitty’s annual report recommends actions to improve the quality of life for older adults and prioritise areas with the fastest growth in older people. The report focuses on issues about improving the quality of life in an adult’s later years rather than the quantity. It is aimed at policymakers (government and professional bodies), healthcare professionals, medical scientists, and the public.
