Inclusion Health and Inequality Groups:

Victims of Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is a transnational organized crime that violates human rights with severe and diverse consequences for the physical and mental health of victims and survivors, and so has public health implications.
Even when appropriately treated, the consequences of the abuse experienced by victims and survivors can endure for decades, none more so than for victims of sex trafficking, one type of modern slavery that brings with it a high prevalence of sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, physical injury and serious mental distress.
